The Order of Friendship of Peoples commemorates the 50th anniversary of the USSR’s formation. The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR established it on December 17, 1972. This order symbolizes unity and cooperation. It honors citizens of the USSR, enterprises, institutions, organizations, and military units. Additionally, union and autonomous republics, krays, oblasts, autonomous regions, national districts, and cities can receive this prestigious award. Even non-citizens of the USSR can earn it.
This order acknowledges great merits in strengthening friendship and fraternal cooperation among socialist nations. It celebrates significant contributions to the economic, socio-political, and cultural development of the USSR and Union republics. The order also recognizes special efforts to strengthen the defense power of the USSR.
Recipients of the Order of Friendship of Peoples wear it on the left side of the chest, after the Order of the Red Banner of Labour. The order, crafted from silver, symbolizes the unity and cooperation among socialist nations. It highlights the importance of peace and friendly relations between people.
