Description

Hit the Bell: The Story of Alexander Herzen.
Slavin Lev.
2nd ed. – M.: Politizdat, 1983.

Herzen, Alexander Ivanovich – Russian writer, critic of the autocratic monarchy, one of the most significant Russian followers of utopian socialism – the so-called “revolutionary democrats”; publicist, educator, philosopher.

He was the publisher of the revolutionary weekly Kolokol (1857-1867) and the almanac Polar Star (1855-1868). While in exile, he openly supported the Polish uprising of 1863, which was associated with the disillusionment of many Russian intellectuals with Kolokol. The peasant reform in Russia also contributed to the decline of interest in the social criticism of Kolokol.
