The book is devoted to the life and work of a talented architect of the first third of the XVIII century. D. Trezzini, invited by Peter I to build a new capital on the banks of the Niva River and found in Russia his second homeland. According to Trezzini’s designs were laid Kronstadt and Alexander Nevsky Lavra, built the Summer Palace of Peter the Great, Peter and Paul Cathedral, the building of the Twelve Colleges and others. On the basis of historical facts, relying on archival materials and a wide range of memoir and scientific literature, the author – a Moscow writer, historian and art historian – recreates the pages of life and work of Trezzini, familiarizes the reader with his environment, with the turbulent and dramatic events of the Peter era.
